SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation
CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION
Access to clean water and sanitation is fundamental to health, development, and human dignity. It aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
Sustainable management of water resources and access to safe water and sanitation are essential for economic growth and productivity, and provide significant leverage for existing investments in health and education.
Sustainable water management and improved sanitation infrastructure are essential for educational institutions to provide a healthy and conducive learning environment. With the growing global population and the challenges posed by climate change, pollution, and urbanization, schools and universities must implement efficient water usage practices and maintain hygienic sanitation facilities. This ensures the health and well-being of students and staff while supporting environmental responsibility. By adopting sustainable water management practices, educational institutions can contribute to the broader goal of preserving natural resources, promoting public health, and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship among future generations.
To create a safe and comfortable learning environment, our educational institutions have water management and better sanitary infrastructure. Rainwater recharge to groundwater is a natural process that involves capturing and directing rainwater into the ground to improve groundwater levels. In our institution, rainwater is collected and recharged into bore wells and groundwater. Across four different blocks, there are recharge pits with capacities of 7.5 square feet, 9 square feet, and 84 square feet to enhance groundwater levels.
Water Supply to the campus is done by three wells namely NEC well with the capacity of 10, 80,000 litre is located Near to Canteen, Well 1 with the capacity of 7, 20,000 litre and Well 2 with the capacity of 4, 80,000 litre are located near to outside the campus. There is a proper pipeline connection from well 1 and well 2 they supply water to NEC well. These three open wells supply water to various locations to satisfy the daily need of water in the campus.
Sanitation in educational institutions is essential for creating a healthy and supportive learning environment. Proper sanitation, including clean water, hygienic restrooms, and waste management, prevents the spread of diseases, improves student health, and reduces absenteeism, particularly for adolescent girls during menstruation. It fosters better academic performance by ensuring students and staff can focus on learning without health-related disruptions. Promoting hygiene practices among students cultivates lifelong habits that contribute to their well-being and the broader community’s health. Therefore, investing in sanitation infrastructure and awareness programs is critical for the holistic development of educational institutions.
